Puppies Puppies (Jade Kuriki Olivo)
Documentation of “Trigger (Glock 22) (permanently disabled by Murmurs)” Trigger Series 2016 – Now

$300

Puppies Puppies (Jade Kuriki Olivo) (born 1989, Dallas) is a Brooklyn-based artist. She is very emotional. Just ignore her or pay attention. It’s up to you. Jade’s mother was held at gunpoint while picking up her older brother from a school play. She broke her glasses and said she was unable to see them to identify the three men who were pointing the gun at her. They wanted her to come into the car with them but she avoided it…saving her life. This image is documentation of a project Jade initiated to get used guns off the market. The guns are melted down after purchased and only the trigger survives. These prints are Jade’s first works to be hand signed. Her work was featured in the 2017 Whitney Biennial, the 9th Berlin Biennale and X Nicaraguan Biennale. Recent exhibitions include Halle für Kunst, Luneberg; Barbara Weiss, Berlin; Queer Thoughts, New York; XYZ Collective, Tokyo; What Pipeline, Detroit; and Overduin & Co., Los Angeles. This work is offered as an extension of her participation in The Struggle for Change, Murmurs, Los Angeles.
