Exterior with Goats
Jill Mulleady (born 1980, Montevideo) is a Los Angeles-based artist whose works meld careful observation of everyday scenes and attention to the history of painting into highly elaborated imaginary worlds. Temporality seems to collapse, as if in hallucination of an alternate reality. A recent series of paintings included in the 58th Venice Biennale, from which these goats are lifted, take Edvard Munch’s Frieze of Life as a starting point. Selected solo exhibitions include Swiss Institute, New York; Kunsthalle Bern; Freedman Fitzpatrick, Los Angeles; Galerie Neu, Berlin and upcoming at Pond Society, Shanghai; Midway Contemporary, Minneapolis; and Gladstone Gallery, Brussels. This work is offered as an extension of her participation in the forthcoming Made in L.A. 2020: a version at the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles.
